After only a few hours of sleep, Dead Eye awoke to go back to work with John to help get his cardio and endurance up. Coming back home, he began to question the move even farther. When he began the real estate process, it was mainly to run away everything related to his father's passing. Now that he had opened up and let out all the negative feelings he had stored inside, he had a bit of a different perspective about the whole deal. All of his loved ones were in Cali, and he knows absolutely no one in his new Long Beach.
{Scene Opens: Dead Eye’s Long Beach, CA House}
The scene opens with Dead Eye standing around a bunch of scattered items on his living room floor with a few boxes, mostly empty. He sits on the floor, staring at a picture frame. As his doorbell rings, he feels a couple tears roll down his cheek. He gets up to answer the door, knowing that it is one of his mentors. Escapism a common theme after loss, Dead Eye met Mark Wilson when he was the strength coach at his house school. Seeing the pain in what were cold, dead eyes (if you will), Wilson took the teenager under his wing. He had recently lost his wife to cancer, so he could relate to the pain of loss. Wilson had been a bit of a local legend from a successful high school and college career that injury cut short. Assuming he'd run into pictures of his lost brother while packing stuff away, Dead Eye accepted Mark’s offer to help him get those things together. The two greet each other after Dead Eye opened his door.
Mark: Charles, how's it going, buddy?
DE: *sighs* It's going, man. How's the fam?
Mark: They're good. Joe is heading off to Berkley next semester.
The two walk into the living room area.
Dead Eye: Sorry, everything is all over the place. I got a little distracted.
Mark: I see. So, is this packing thing today day two of keeping yourself busy?
DE: It kinda started that way, but sometimes words people tell you have a certain way to snap you out of your own mind.
Mark: Most definitely. Are you holding up better than Sunday night?
DE: A lot better...til I started looking at all this…
Dead Eye points to the family pictures that are on his sofa. He takes a deep breath.
Mark: Hey, don't let yourself get back to that dark place, man. I don't want to see that look again. Just treasure those memories and keep em close to your heart.
DE: That's the same thing Karin told me about that and about us adjusting to not being together 24/7. She said I should remember them and the ones that we'll have weeks, months, and years from now. It's not exactly the same with pops and Reggie, but I remember those times and smile and laugh, instead of keeping it locked away and hurting myself and those trying to help me.
Mark: That's really good to hear. It sounds like you are finally getting that support system you've always wanted, outside of just having me to talk to.
DE: You're right about that. I've met a lot of great people since I signed with NGW that I'm so glad are in my life. Thanks for always having my back, though. I don't know how I would have turned out if you weren't there to mentor me.
Mark: You don't have to thank me. Besides, all I did was just lend an ear and some okay advice here and there. Now, when do I get to meet this Karin? I've never heard you talk so much about someone before.
DE: That's because she's special. I guess she should meet the man that taught me it was a good thing to let people in. I've finally learned what that means lately.
Mark: Whenever that time is, you let me know. I have to thank her for making you smile. God knows you need to do that more.
Dead Eye sarcastically flashes a cheesy grin.
DE: I'll talk to her about it tonight. We're going see The Weeknd in Inglewood tonight with Carm and Jacob Daniels, who I'll be meeting for the first time.
Mark: Sounds good. I'm sure it'll be nice for you to get out of here. Speaking of which, why don't we start getting these memories packed up, shall we?
DE: Yeah, that's a good idea.
