Brief Character Bio: As a white kid growing up in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, Jason experienced more than his fair share of bullying by wannabe gangbangers, trying to impress each other. His grandfather was a huge wrestling fan, regaling his grandson with memories of matches he watched at the Olympic Auditorium, watching such legends as Freddy Blassie, The Sheik, and John Tolos.
When Jason was old enough, he went to the matches with his grandfather and devoured as much wrestling as he could on television. This inspired Jason to stand up to the neighborhood bullies, eventually forcing them to leave him alone.
In high school, Jason lettered in football and wrestling. While Jason was in college, he inquired about training to become a pro wrestler, but found that he lacked the money to do so. His grandfather agreed to pay for his training, but only on the condition that he graduate from college. Jason readily agreed and poured himself into his studies, graduating summa cum laude in Engineering. Once he began his training, he saw that other men his size relied strictly on their size, merely battering their opponents into submission. He realized that in order to stand out, he needed to show more than just punching and kicking to impress the fans.
He met his wife Alicia at a GWA show in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Alicia has been his biggest supporter ever since. During his run in the GWA, Alicia kept a low profile, with only the occasional appearance on camera.
After a long and storied career, Devastator suffered from a massive case of burnout, losing that spark that drove him to the successes he garnered inside the ring. Having been frugal with his earnings, he retired relatively young, in his mid-thirties. But the itch to return the ring did not go away with his retirement, and in time, became too strong for him to ignore.
So when his one-time foe Goth contacted him out of the blue, he strongly considered returning, but not before thoroughly scouting the Asylum Wrestling Alliance, as he still did not fully trust the man he had faced inside the ring. But after seeing some familiar faces, and recognizing the potential in those he did not know personally, he signed on the dotted line, becoming the latest inmate in the AWA. After testing the waters, so to speak, he finally fulfilled the lifelong dream of his wife, Alicia, by bringing both herself and her brother Sergio into the AWA.
At the close of 2012, he made the decision to retire from active competition to concentrate on his wife’s transition from manager to active wrestler, in addition to assisting her in overseeing their various business ventures outside of professional wrestling. That didn’t last very long, as the injury that he thought would spell the end of his in-ring career would be corrected with a newly-developed procedure that enabled him to step back into the ring. His comeback was personally satisfying, netting him two more reigns as Universal Champion and an unblemished run as Tag Team Champion with Alicia that only ended via forfeiture, as AWA bylaws prohibited a Universal Champion from concurrently holding the Tag Team Championships.
During a training session with Alicia, a freak accident left him injured and unable to compete. But rather than sit around and stew, Jason took advantage of an offer put forth to him by the AWA Board of Directors. He would have a great deal of authority, but it would come at a price. That price would be his in-ring career. With his injury casting doubt that he would even be able to return to the ring, the decision wasn’t that difficult. So he announced his retirement and revealed his new role in the Asylum Wrestling Alliance: Director of Wrestling Operations.
With the closure of the AWA, he now has much more time to devote to training his latest proteges, Aurora Knight and Damon Graves....
Ring Gear: Business suits, but more often than not, he wears black t-shirts, black jeans, and black boots
