The AC quietly kicked in, blowing cold air into the master bedroom as Aurora and Damon slept in each other’s arms on the king sized bed. Sunlight poured in through a gap in the pewter floor-length curtains, sending a shaft of light across the foot of the bed. Inside the nightstand on Aurora’s side of the bed, vibrations shatter the calm, as Aurora’s phone rumbles across the wood at the bottom of the drawer. Aurora sat up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, grateful for the fact that Damon was sleeping rather soundly for once. She fumbled around for the drawer pulls, finally grasping her hand around one of them to pull the drawer open to retrieve her phone. With a yawn, she answered, not even bothering to look at the caller ID.
Aurora: Hello?
Her voice sounded like that of a zombie, calling out for brains. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, letting her feet sink into the plush silver carpet.
Voice: Aurora, is that you?
Aurora: Nnnnn…. Donald? What’s going on? Why are you calling so early in the morning?
She let out a yawn as she stretched out her free arm and her back. She held the phone as close to her ear as possible, so as not to miss a word from her former landlord.
Donald: Please tell me you’re sitting down; what I’m about to tell you is… well, to be honest, I’m still in shock.
Aurora’s eyebrows arched. If she wasn’t awake before, she was now. She stood up, taking the phone out into the hallway to avoid waking Damon.
Aurora: Whoa, whoa… what happened? Are you alright?
Donald: I’m fine. It’s Jered.
A sneer formed on Aurora’s face. Just when she thought she’d heard the last from her horrid ex-husband – or, soon to be ex, as it were – someone had to go and bring him up again.
Aurora: Yeah, what about that asshole?
Donald: He’s dead, Aurora.
Silence. Dead? Just like that? The heartless bastard that had managed to tear her away from her family and put her through four years of unspeakable hell was all of a sudden… dead?
Aurora: Donald, don’t tease me like that, okay? If this is some sort of a joke or a prank, I swear I’m gonna…
Donald: Aurora, you know me. You know I wouldn’t joke about anything like that. I only just heard about it myself when the cops showed up looking for you.
Aurora: What do you mean they were looking for me?
Donald: They were trying to locate his next of kin. Apparently, since your divorce wasn’t final, that’s still you. I told them I didn’t know where you were… that you had moved out a long time ago….
Aurora: You still haven’t told me what happened.
Donald: Well, you know how much of a heavy drinker he was…
Aurora: Yeah… and?
Donald: Seems the other night, he overheard some guys talking about that company you work for… one of them was apparently a fan of you and that tag team partner of yours. Jered lost his shit and broke a pitcher of beer over his head…. Please don’t make me tell you the rest.
Aurora: I need to hear it, Donald. As much of it as you can tell me.
There was an awkward pause on Donald’s end of the line.
Donald: You sure you want to hear this? It’s not pretty.
Aurora: Out with it, already!
Donald: The guy really let him have it; that’s when the cops were called, but by the time they got there, the damage had been done. The guy stuck around to give his statement, and no one seemed to want to press any charges. Thanks to witnesses, the guy is likely to get off by reason of self-defense, but… Jered finally mouthed off to the wrong guy, and got his neck snapped for it.
Aurora let herself fall against the wall, the frame of the portrait of Alicia’s twins, Darion and Jaina rattling against the wall beside her. She let her hand fall away from her ear, still holding the phone as she stared across the hallway, completely numb.
Donald’s Voice: Aurora? Aurora? Are you okay? Aurora, answer me!
Across the hallway from where Aurora stood hung an ornate, gold-framed mirror, catching her own reflection in the glass. The expression on her face was completely blank, devoid of any human emotion whatsoever. For the first time in her life, Aurora didn’t know what to feel. Realizing she still had the phone in her hand, she lifted it back to her ear.
Aurora: Sorry about that, Donald. I… This is a lot for me to process when I just woke up.
Donald: I understand. Just… take care of yourself, okay? If you or Damon need anything from us, let me know.
Aurora: Okay… and thanks for letting me know, Donald. I appreciate it.
She hung up the phone, leaning her head against the wall with her eyes closed. A deep, heavy sigh forced its way out of her. She stared at the ceiling for a moment before pushing off of the wall and heading back into the bedroom. In the bed, Damon was still asleep. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his bare chest as he lay beneath the black sheet that covered him from the waist down.
Aurora: It’s all over…
She let out another sigh as she padded toward the bed. Carefully, she put the phone back in the drawer and slipped back under the covers. She didn’t lay back down… there was no point in attempting to go back to sleep. She leaned against the padded headboard, staring across the room at nothing in particular. Should she be sad? Why? Jered was a miserable bastard, and a small part of her screamed from within that he had it coming. But would it make her a bad person to admit that she was glad he was dead?
Damon: Harley?
She turned her head to see Damon facing her, his head propped up by his elbow as he placed a hand on her arm.
Damon: You okay?
A half smile formed on her face as she nodded her head. It soon dawned on her what Jered’s death ultimately meant to her.
Aurora: You know what? I think I will be.
Damon: I thought I heard you on the phone earlier….
Aurora: Oh… sorry if I woke you up.
Damon sat up, a smile on his face. Even when he was half asleep, he was still the master of the smolder.
Damon: No biggie. I was gonna get up anyway. So what’s really going on?
Aurora paused, unsure as to how the words would flow from her mind to her lips. She looked at Damon, still at a bit of a loss. Better to just let it out.
Aurora: That was my former landlord on the phone… Jered was in a bar fight last night….
Damon groaned, half in annoyance and half from the fact that he was still barely awake.
Damon: Is he in jail again?
She shook her head, prompting a curious look from Damon.
Aurora: Not unless by “in jail” you mean the LA County morgue...
Damon sat up like he had been jabbed in the ass with a straight pin, his eyes full of shock.
Damon: Whoa… back up. Did I hear you right?
Aurora nodded her head. From the look on her face, Damon could tell that she was still trying to properly process the news herself.
Aurora: Yep… he’s dead. And I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about it. On the one hand, he had it coming…
She paused, words failing her. She could only sit there, shaking her head.
Aurora: But at the same time, part of me feels like shit for being glad that he’s dead. I mean yeah, he was a dickhead, but he was still human… ish.
Damon got out of bed, holding out his hand and motioning for her to follow him.
Damon: Harley, you’re too good of a person sometimes. Come on; let’s go scare up some breakfast.
Aurora shook her head, a smirk on her face as she slid out of bed again. A light chuckle escaped from her mouth as she stood there, staring at him.
Aurora: You would think of food at a time like this….
As Aurora walked toward the bedroom door, Damon moved in behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Damon: Well, I did have something special planned for today, and you can’t do jack shit on an empty stomach, so…
The sound of a rumbling stomach interrupted Damon. He and Aurora stared at each other, neither one admitting as to whose stomach the noise had come from. Instead, they just laughed.
Aurora: Good point.
Aurora stepped out into the hallway, with Damon close behind her.
The “Edge of Nowhere”
Las Vegas, NV
June 27, 2016 – 10 pm
Aurora Knight sat on the top of a small rock pile in the middle of a massive open field, surrounded by nothing but gravel, several dried-up shrubs, and a spider’s web-like network of tire tracks from bicycles. The neighborhood kids called this stretch of land behind Harney Middle School “The Edge of Nowhere,” or at least the cluster of kids she had spoken to did, anyway. She could easily see why; apart from the school, the place was just an endless stretch of… well, nothing.
Far to the west of where Aurora was sitting, across a sea of glittering city lights, the Las Vegas Skyline lit up the sky, with the beam from the Luxor shooting up into the sky.
Aurora: Somewhere, Avery Miles III is kicking back with his toes in the sand, the scent of the Atlantic Ocean filling his nostrils. And good on him. Hell, I’d be lying if I said Damon and I didn’t do our own fair share of goofing off during our time here in Vegas. After all, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” and all that shit, right?
She smirked as she continued to stare out at the city. She picked up a pebble, smooth and round, with flecks of what looked like gold in an otherwise dark gray surface. It looked out of place amongst the other pieces of rock that she found – most were jagged and red, with layers of varying shades of red and white.
Aurora: I love the view from up here… during the day, it’s amazing, but I just had to come back up here to see what it looks like at night. Sure enough, it’s even more beautiful than I could have imagined. To be able to see from one end of the Strip all the way to the other… just wow!
And at City of Sin, 18,000 strong will fill the stands at the Thomas & Mack Center to see the best wrestlers in the business tear it up in the ring. Of course, among those wrestlers will be our illustrious double champion, Avery Miles III, pulling double duty, no less. I’ll probably come off sounding like a broken record, but it takes a lot of guts to defend two championships on the same night. Top that off with a match against that attention whore that can’t stand not hearing the sound of her own voice, and I can almost understand why you would up and jet off to an island paradise with your girlfriend. Hell, I’d probably want to take a break from it all myself.
Aurora shrugged her shoulders and chuckled. She stood up, walking along a path in the dirt carved by several intertwined sets of bike tracks as she made her way toward the school.
Aurora: With that being said, I’m sure you can see why there may be others that don’t exactly take too kindly to seeing you gallivanting around the world with the boss on his private jet. Especially when Damon and I are here in Vegas, getting ready for the biggest fight of our collective careers. Sure, we’ve taken the time to kick back a little bit, have a little fun here and there, but we haven’t forgotten the main reason we came here, and that’s to bring home the NGW Tag Team Championships.
It’s too bad, Avery, that the person you put your faith in has clearly let you down. But the fact that you’re still pressing forward, even with the thought that you’re almost certainly walking headfirst towards the end of your reign as a double champion, you’re carrying yourself as I’m sure you’ve always had, with your head held high. Confidence in the face of adversity is truly admirable, Avery, so props to you on that.
But the one thing you need to understand is that while Damon and I may show respect where it’s given, that doesn’t change the fact that you are still holding something that we have busted our asses to earn a shot for, and we plan on busting even more ass to take from you. Not to take away from everything you’ve done as champion, but you’re absolutely right. The NGW Tag Team Championships deserve to be around the waists of a team that has been a solid unit from the get-go, not swapping partners all over the place. And I get it… it’s not your fault. You just had a really nasty string of bad luck when it comes to picking tag team partners. It would seem that Lady Luck just doesn’t feel like cooperating with you right now.
She reached a shallow gorge, the sort of fissure you’d see in the ground that might have been carved by a long-dried stream, or heavy winds, given the fact that it didn’t look like this area saw much in the way of rain. She followed the gorge down toward the street, past a park with several baseball diamonds clustered together in the center of a massive green field.
Aurora: By the way, speaking of Lady Luck not being on your side, I managed to catch your match against that snake Persephone. For the record, you got screwed, and frankly, I’d be doing the same thing you are, asking – no, demanding – to have another go at her. To be honest, that bitch gets on my nerves like you wouldn’t believe, but unlike her, I won’t be telling you to kick her damn jaw off “for me”. But I will say that – well, I hope you kick her fucking jaw off!
She chuckled, kicking another rock she spotted on the ground. It was larger than the one she had tossed earlier, and it made a clattering noise as it collided with the other rocks, bouncing down the gorge.
Aurora looked out toward the street, still several yards from where she stood. A single red car rolled to a stop, boasting the unmistakable profile of a Lamborghini Gallardo. After a moment, the familiar shape of her boyfriend and tag team partner stepped out, leaning against the side, waiting for her.
Aurora: This marks the first time I’ve actively cared about going after a championship, because even with the odds stacked against you, I know that Damon and I are heading for one hell of a fight. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bring everything you’ve got, Avery, because we want to lay it all out right there in that ring. And when the bell rings, and the referee hands over the Tag Team titles to the Angelz of Destruction, Damon and I may just hold you to that handshake.
But for now, I want you and Taylor to enjoy yourselves while you’re out there. Because come this Saturday at City of Sin, fun time’s over. Maybe somewhere down the line, once Taylor has some experience under her belt, the four of us can tangle in the ring. But until that happens, you’re looking at one half of the team that plans on holding the NGW Tag Team Championships for a VERY long time.
Aurora finished her trek down to the street, greeting Damon with a kiss as she reached the car. The pair take one last look at the view of the Strip before getting in the car. As Damon turned the key in the ignition, the engine roaring like a hungry lion, Aurora looked over her shoulder and smiled.
Aurora: I’ll see you in the ring, Champ!
She smirked as Damon cranked up the radio. By some bizarre coincidence, “Sin City” by AC/DC ripped through the speakers as they drove away.
Gordon Ramsay Burgr – Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino
Las Vegas, NV
June 28, 2016 – 12:00 pm
It seemed like such an odd place for a business meeting… and Aurora didn’t exactly look like herself in the pale gray business suit she was wearing. Mainly because it wasn’t even hers – she had borrowed it from her manager’s closet. But the suit was a necessary evil; the sort of business she was set to conduct was a bit of a… sensitive issue, one where her normal, more comfortable attire just wouldn’t be appropriate. So there she sat, an empty plate in front of her, bearing the remnants of an order of Truffle Parmesan Fries.
Damon wasn’t there for this meeting. Given the fact that she was meeting with her now-former mother-in-law, they both figured it would be best for him to sit this one out. So she waited at that table… alone, with nothing but the rich smell of beef in the air to keep her company. Thankfully, she didn’t have to wait for very long.
An elderly woman soon made her way through the sea of tables, dressed in a pantsuit that looked like it came out of a 1970’s JCPenney catalog. It took everything within Aurora to resist the urge to laugh at the horrid burgundy ensemble as the petite sexagenarian sat down in the chair across from her.
Woman: Aurora… it’s certainly been a while…
Aurora: Cut the crap, Nancy. You never came around unless you either wanted something or to tell me what a horrible wife I was to your son.
Nancy: Well, what did you expect? You could have been more supportive of him…
Aurora: Excuse me? For four straight years, he was living off of MY dime! He never worked a single day during that time because he couldn’t stay off the sauce!
Nancy: Well, you shouldn’t have allowed it in the house.
Aurora sneered at the woman. She rarely kept more than one bottle of beer in the apartment, and even that was after she herself was old enough to buy it. Any other drinking happened outside of the home, and Aurora dealt only with the aftermath.
Aurora: I can’t believe you… I’m not the one that gave him the fake ID. I’m not the one that used it to go to the local dive bar every other night, only to drink himself into a drunken stupor. Your son was always horrible to me, and I could only assume it was because of how he was raised. Or should I say, how he grew up, because you may have been under the same roof, but you devoted more of your time to that jackass thatYOU married….
She glared daggers at the old woman sitting across from her, her upper lip curling into a sneer that she couldn’t force back even if she wanted to. Nancy looked shocked, leaning back in her seat with her beady, dull blue eyes open as wide as they possibly could. Her plastic-framed bifocals seemed to magnify her eyes in an almost cartoonish fashion.
Nancy: Well! I certainly didn’t come all this way to be insulted! I came here to discuss Jered’s final arrangements. Though I don’t really see the point since you two were divorced….
The woman’s thin, wrinkled lips pursed slightly, as if she had been awaiting some sort of angry response from Aurora. She was met with only a harsh stare from the lovely blonde, as Aurora’s pool blue eyes focused into an icy gaze.
Aurora: Correction, Nancy. The word is “divorcing”. The divorce was set to be final in November, but fate apparently had other plans. The fact remains, I’m still his legal next of kin.
Nancy: And if I left his final arrangements to you, you’d sooner leave him to rot in the morgue.
Aurora sneered in disgust as she scoffed at the idea. While it was true that she had grown to despise Jered, even she had enough human decency within her to believe that every human being deserved a proper burial. Though there was a small part of her that wanted to simply cremate him and leave the urn on his mother’s doorstep.
Aurora: Don’t assume you know me, Nancy. Jered may have been an abusive asshole, but even he deserved more dignity than that. Which is precisely why I’m signing over any final decisions to you. Simply put, the only thing I’m keeping of Jered’s is the last name, and that’s only because I’ve established a career with that name.
Nancy: Hmph. I’ll bet you’ve already found yourself a new man. Who was that young man you were seen on TV with again?
Aurora: Not that my personal life is any of your business, but he’s my tag team partner.
Nancy grinned coyly. Perhaps she knew it was none of her business what Aurora did behind closed doors, but she seemed to thrive on any excuse to trash Aurora to the family. A new relationship so soon after Jered’s death would be the icing on the cake, in her eyes.
Nancy: Of course he is… this same man that threatened bodily harm on my son for asking a simple question….
Aurora: Simple, my eye! Jered followed me out to Portland when he KNEW I wanted nothing more to do with him.
Nancy: He was trying to save his marriage!
Aurora felt the flesh of her cheeks start to burn red with rage. Nancy wasn’t there… she didn’t see the creepy look in his eyes that Damon saw. And even if she had been there, she would have blindly followed anything her “precious baby boy” would have said.
Aurora: Bullshit! He told a man that was little more than a stranger to me at the time that I was mentally unstable! He deliberately lied to try to pump a man I hardly knew for information. Jered was using me for a free ride; nothing more. I was just his meal ticket. As long as he had me around, he could just sit around and drink beer until he puked. But whatever. If that’s how you want to remember him, who am I to tell you otherwise? I’m sure the family will continue to revile me regardless. But I don’t give a shit. They’re not the ones that had to bail him out of jail every time he got hauled in for a DUI. They’re not the ones that he would verbally rip apart just because I bought the wrong brand of toilet paper.
Aurora slammed a manila envelope on the table, sliding it toward Nancy, along with a pen.
Aurora: Anyway, here are the documents you requested. By the way, I’ve included documentation stating that you can’t contest what would have been the final judgement in the divorce. After all, he defaulted.
Nancy: Fair enough, I suppose.
Nancy opened the envelope, locating the additional paperwork Aurora had mentioned. After she had finished pouring over every page, Aurora sat and watched as Nancy scrawled her signature on the document. As Nancy slid the papers back across the table, Aurora flashed a brief, satisfied smile.
Nancy: Well, there you have it. Is there an address where we can send a copy of the death certificate once it’s been filed?
Aurora: No need. If necessary, I can get it myself.
Nancy: In that case, I believe we’re all done here…. Good luck to you, Aurora. I wish you well.
Aurora bit the inside of her cheek to keep from scoffing at the woman. She took solace in knowing that after this moment, she would never have to cross paths with her ever again. Never again would she be under the scrutiny of those bespectacled eyes, constantly judging everything she did.
Aurora: Right back at you….
Of course, by that, what she really wanted to say was “go eat a bag of rancid dicks, you old bag!” Instead, Aurora simply watched as Nancy walked away, clutching the envelope as if she was afraid one of the other restaurant patrons would rip it from her feeble, arthritic hands. She groaned as she waited for the waiter to return with the folder that held her credit card….
Waiter: There you are… did you find everything to your liking?
Aurora: Oh yeah! The truffle fries were amazing!
Waiter: Well then, we hope you come visit us again!
Aurora: Oh, I will!
With a smile, Aurora pulled out enough cash for a very generous tip and headed for the exit.
Voice: So, how’d everything go?
Damon’s voice came seemingly out of nowhere, causing her heart to skip a beat. She closed her eyes, smiling as she turned to the source of the sound. Damon stood off to the side of the entrance, leaning against the half wall that separated the restaurant from the rest of the resort. Relieved to see her denim-clad, tattooed prince after a more-than-awkward exchange, she happily threw herself into his arms, curling her arms around his neck.
Aurora: It took everything I had not to reach across the table and pop that tiny little head off of her twiggy little neck, but it’s done.
Damon: So it’s official?
Aurora pulled back, staring into those bewitching emerald eyes with a smile on her face so wide, it looked as if her face would split in half.
Aurora: The nightmare is over… I’m free!
Damon: This calls for a celebration….
Aurora looked down at her outfit, a disgusted scoff eking out of her throat as she threw her arms out.
Aurora: First thing’s first. I SERIOUSLY need to get out of this… this THING! Suits are SO not me!
Damon laughed as he held out his arm. She slipped her own into the crook of his elbow, and they walked at a brisk pace out of the resort.
Neon Museum
Las Vegas, NV
The sky was just dark enough to warrant turning on the small floodlights that shone upon a veritable graveyard of old Las Vegas icons – signs that once stood as markers for some of the most famous casinos in the city.
By the externally-illuminated glow of the now-ruined Stardust sign, the sound of gravel crunching underfoot pierced the silence as Aurora Knight stepped into the light. She was dressed in clothing far more natural for her taste – a pair of distressed cut-off shorts and a body-hugging black v-neck tank top. Her long blonde hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, flowing in waves that bounced with each step. Her face wore a confident smile, but there was a hint of disappointment in her eyes.
Aurora: Oh, Kenzie… This isn’t how I figured things would pan out with us. At least, as far as us standing in the same ring, of course. You and I were supposed to be comrades – sisters in arms, even – but no. You decided to cut and run before we could even get anything done. Now, one of the very things that stands between the Angelz of Destruction and the NGW Tag Team Championships is one of the same people that once ran under our banner.
She looked up at the Stardust sign. Only a few lightbulbs remained in their sockets; others stood empty for who knows how long. The floodlights that lit the sign up from below cast shadows through the bulbs that remained, shadows that resembled semi-inflated balloons. She sat down on the rocks that surrounded the signage that lay strewn throughout the museum’s grounds, bordering the gravel paths that the visitors walked through. Her long legs stretching out across the walkway as the heels of her black Dr. Martens dug into the gravel.
Aurora: It’s sad to see something that once shined bright for all the world to see in such a state of… suckage! As I look at this sign, I remember back when I was little; the way it would sparkle in the night sky, like the very stuff it was named after. Kinda like you, Kenzie. You used to shine a light brighter than almost anyone in NGW. That’s not the case anymore, is it, Kenzie?
No… your light is slowly starting to burn out. You’re on that last little flicker right before the final burnout, Kenzie. Sure, you can still light up a room, but it’s only a matter of time before you give out that last, brilliant flash… and then go dark.
She started to chuckle, barely loud enough to be heard. It was almost as if she couldn’t believe what she was saying.
Aurora: Yeah, I think I’ve been hanging around Gray Malone too long. I’m starting to sound like him. Lights and burnout… HA!
Still, I can’t help but be a little concerned, Kenzie. Everyone on Twitter is going on about “Where’s Kenzie?” It’s gotten to the point where even Damon made a cheesy reference to Scooby Doo. Sounds like they’re about to organize a search party for you. As for me? Call me crazy, but I actually hope that you DO show up. After all, it’s going to royally suck if after Avery Miles put his faith in you as his tag team partner… to fill the decidedly large shoes of his best friend, Levi Daughterty… only to fail him when he needs you the most. But then again, that’s what you do, isn’t it? You get people’s hopes up, then you either let them down or you abandon them altogether.
Aurora shook her head as she pulled her legs closer to her body. Bits of gravel stuck to the backs of her calves. Nothing she couldn’t dust off. Once she was free of any debris, she stood up, taking a look around. Beside the Stardust sign sat the bottom half of the giant magic lamp that once glowed brightly at the old Aladdin Casino. She walked down the path, past the signs that had once adorned the Fitzgeralds and Lady Luck Casinos, now known as the D and Downtown Grand, respectively. Though they were added fairly recently in comparison with some of the other, older relics, these signs were already in horrible states of disrepair.
Aurora: The old always makes way for the new, which is funny coming from me, since you’re actually younger than I am. But it’s still a sad state of affairs when someone as young as you, with as much promise as you had, fall as hard as you have. I’m sure Devlin had high hopes for you; it’s just too bad that those hopes won’t come to fruition.
Aurora paused, taking in a deep breath. A few gray clouds spread across the sky, and the air hung with the faint scent of rain. She closed her eyes as she stood in the center of the walk way, a smile slowly creeping across her face. She continued her walk, passing old signs for the Tropicana, and the desert-themed Sahara sign, which was lit up in a beautiful shade of blue.
Aurora: Can you smell it, Kenzie? I know I can. There’s a storm coming, and it’s set to make landfall at City of Sin. Of course, I’ll be bringing the lightning, and Damon will be bringing the thunder. Of course, Avery will be bringing the gold and putting everything on the line, but the real question is… what will you be bringing? Will you bring the spark that Corey Bull saw in you that caused him to invite you to join the Angelz in the first place? Or will you just bring a yellow stripe down your back, because you know you’re out of your league?
The way I see it, it won’t matter WHAT you bring to this fight. What matters to me is what you WON’T be walking out of the Thomas & Mack Center with – the NGW Tag Team Championships. Those big metal beauties will soon be gracing the waists of the Angelz of Destruction. I hope Avery let you take a long, hard look at that title, Kenz, because that is as close as you’re going to get to the Tag Team Championships.
Rebellion and Chaos… Aurora and Damon… It doesn’t matter what you call us. Pretty soon, you’ll be calling us CHAMPIONS!
She walked on until the pathway opened up to the area that led to the museum’s exit. With each step, the treads of her Docs stirred up small clouds of dust. Eventually, the dust clouds dispersed, and the Angel of Rebellion disappeared into the museum’s main building.
