003 * Consistent
Scene 001 - SoCal Grappling Arts Center - San Diego, CA - Summer 2011 - FLASHBACK
*Avery Miles III is working inside of the ring. He is one of three men inside of the ring. One man is atop the corner, another one is down on the mat, and Avery is down to one knee. The high flyer jumps off as Avery jumps up to his feet and charges forward. The high flyer hits a senton just as Avery hits a running shooting star press landing on top of the two men as they essentially bounce hard. Avery holds his chest as he makes a cover on the man at the bottom of the pile. One. Two. Three. Avery wins the match as the crowd gets behind him.*
Old Man: Good. Good. All three of you, up.
*Avery and the other two men get up to their feet, as Avery holds his chest still in stinging pain*
Old Man: You two… hit the showers. Next two… you are up.
Avery: Are you kidding me?
Old Man: Calm down Sally, you’ll have time to rest..
Avery: Finally!
Old Man: ...when you are dead.
*Two more men climbs into the ring as the Old Man rings the bell to start the next Triple Threat. Avery lets out a huge breath as he begins to battle both men and a whole new match begins*
Scene 002 - Avery’s Home - Henderson, NV - May 19th, 2016
*We open as Avery is sitting on the edge of the pool, with his legs in the pool. Avery recently moved into this Vegas suburban home with two people that matter very much to him. He has begin to settle into the new hometown as life had been a hectic roller coaster now for months. Looking ahead to the weekend, Avery was on his fourth date in CWT; a six man Battle Royale with the winner receiving a Roadhouse Championship match on the next show. Avery was not a stranger to title shots, and even holds his first title in his home promotion. Avery decides to shoot a video for CWT without any of the fancy setup or dark and brooding backdrop*
I have been as real as I can, since day one. My own personal life has been poked at, and yet I still remain the same consistent man that I have been. Wins or losses, I have put forth effort and shown that I am true to who I am. Confidence and honesty, things I bring to Texas every time I am booked. Probably the most successful out of this group of people in this match -
Miles III: 2-1
Skeeter: 1-1
Jamison: 1-2
Storm: 0-2
Tragik: 0-2
Indiana: 0-0
The definition of consistency is steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form. From day one in CWT, I have been consistent. Consistent does not equal being undefeated, but remaining on your set path and not wavering from it. I came here to Texas with the goal of gold in mind, and to make a name for myself in an area I was not familiar with. Now I have an opportunity in front of me to achieve more heights in my career, and I plan on doing so. Walking away without a win is not something that even enters my mind because I am consistent in my thought as well; to win often and as much as I can. That continues in Austin, Texas this weekend. Two tour stops left, and I am not sure if I will be returning… but it is important to consider the now then worry about the future. The now is this Battle Royale; a match filled with opponents of varying familiarity. Some I’ve wrestled here in Texas against, some I have wrestled elsewhere, and some that I have never heard of.
*Avery smiles, ready to take on his list of opponents*
Let’s begin with the one person that spits pure venom, and it is almost sad that he tries to be a shock jock twenty years after it was cool to do so. Tragik. His lack of intelligence shows through when he opens his mouth. The fact that Tragik wants to touch on my own personal loss shows what sort of “man” he is. And I use that term loosely. He has nothing to say about me other than being a massive letdown; this coming from a man without a win. Not sure how a winning record is a massive letdown, but I do have one loss so I you sure got me there!
*Avery shakes his head and has a small chuckle due to the stupidity of Tragik*
Tragik lives up to his name when people end up referring to his career; it’s like he even sees failure as the only option and trying to bring down the opponents with him is the only option. He is the schoolyard bully except for the fact that he isn’t big, no one is scared of him, and he is the one that gets beat up.
*Avery shrugs*
Next up, oh yeah! This guy… Isaac Indiana wants to talk about not being able to reach the big dance? Well not that is matters here in Texas, but I have already had multiple title matches and a current title run in my career. I’m not sure how I couldn’t afford sleeves, but maybe it’s being I just purchased this house in Vegas. I mean… a swimming pool or sleeves? That is a hard decision to make, but I think swimming pool wins this round. And yet, being atop this group of talent I am being called out for inconsistent while Mr. Indiana does onto waste more time on a man that is not even in this match. I am not sure if we realizes who he is fighting this week, or if he has some sort of man crush. At least Tragik was match focused. But you? Your nonsensical approach to cutting a promo is lackluster and is worthless.
*We hear a plane fly overhead as the neighborhood seems to a bit noisy today due to the neighborhood children*
For the other men in this match, it is not something that I cannot handle. Last week, I put Jamison down and have no issues tossing him over the top rope this time. I said before the last show that Jamison plays a role, and he did so by the book. The epitome of a bad guy that does not get his way in the end, and the good guy ends up winning. He played right into my hand, and it will happen yet again. Jamison is all talk with no substance, and that will be even more evident this weekend. Jamison is like Tragik-light; someone that insults but ends up being just a little spider bite instead of the venom that Tragik tries to spew.
*Avery kicks his legs a bit in the pool as it creates small waves that ripple across it*
Mark Storm is 0-2 here in Texas, and yet he still tries. I have to respect someone that does not give up, but I do hold a victory over him somewhere else. And I am sure that he remembers that. Storm is the dark horse of this match and will offer a huge challenge to the rest of the talent, but if anything I will continue to do what I have done; show up and give more of an effort than anyone else in this match. I know better than to overlook Storm, but I feel as though he spreads himself too thin and it hurts his conditioning. You can ask anyone that has signed him to a contract, and they will repeat the very same thing.
*Avery pulls his legs out and stands up, allowing the warm Vegas Sun to warm him*
Finally, Skeeter. A man that is even so far here in Texas, and a man that does not mind putting his body on the line. I see him as someone that I can respect. Someone that will battle his hardest to the bitter end, and is willing to do what it takes to win. A man much like me. I am not so sure that we speak the same language, but inside of the ring we are more alike than most people think. That said, this is not the time for Skeeter to succeed. This is my match to win, and my shot to take.
*Taking a seat on a lounge chair, Avery checks the time and decides to finish up*
I am sure that others will state why they deserve this; or they will put down the competition to elevate themselves. Put me down, call out my loss, or bring up the fact that while I am doing well professionally my own personal life has been full of ups and downs. Don’t worry boys, I am going to go out there and put my skills on display to earn myself a shot, and to show exactly what CWT was expecting when they signed me to a contract. I may not be the biggest, or the most decorated. My experience may be less than some; but my heart is incomparable to anyone in this match or in this company. This is my time; my opportunity; this is MY shot.
Scene 003 - SoCal Grappling Arts Center - San Diego, CA - Summer 2011 - FLASHBACK
*Avery is slow to his feet as a man in blue comes charging in. Avery instinctively leans forward and tosses the man up and over him into a back body drop. Out of nowhere, the man in red hits a big dropkick sending Avery hard into the corner, but the young man uses it as a source of rebound and comes out strong with a spinning heel kick. With both men down, Avery focuses and sees the first man getting up to one knee. Avery quickly drops him back down with an enziguiri. He turns back to see the man in bed starting to shake the cobwebs. A quick springboard and a moonsault Avery connect and pins the man. One. Two. Three.*
Old Man: Good job, kid. Nice job. Consistency. That is what will take you far. You have worked on your stamina, and you can last inside of the ring with the best of them, but don’t ever allow yourself to drop off. You have taken down opponent after opponent, and there is nothing that you cannot do when your mind's focused. Nothing. Remember that. Now hit the showers and enjoy the night.
Avery: Seriously?
Old Man: Go.
*Avery smiles finally earning the respect of his trainer as he climbs out of the ring and heads towards the locker room. He stops just before he leaves the gym and looks over to the Old Man*
Avery: Thank you.
*The Old Man breaks his usual cold attitude and offers a slight smile. In this moment, Avery realizes what good the Old Man has been doing by putting Avery through the ringer. Only the best survive through the Old Man’s regimen, and Avery has been working through it. He has never given up, showed up each and every day, and never goofed off. Avery would end up being the final student of the Old Man… but his best student yet*
