003 * respect
avery miles III is not your run of the mill wrestler. he comes from a line of athletes. he is a generational star. this we all know. he has discussed it before. been there, done that. with his first main card match just under a week away, avery miles looks to meet up with hannah lacey backstage to have an interview. both of his opponents, john blade and dead eye, have already run the interview gamet with her. it is time for avery to have his few minutes of focus as we see him standing by.
*avery miles is standing backstage with hannah lacey, interviewer for ngw. both john blade and dead eye have had their time with the interviewer and it is time for avery to have his time in front of the camera*
thank you for joining me avery miles.
glad to be here.
as you have seen, i have interviewed both of your opponents already. why don't we chat on each for a moment, okay?
sure.
first, john blade.
um, well. okay. sure. john blade. what can i really say? apparently the champ is here when you are not a champion. apparently beating two other newcomers to ngw is enough for him to believe a title shot is in the cards ofr him. but i do have to give him credit, he is short and right to the point. there is no word play with john blade. what you see if what you get, and i believe that to be nothing more than a muscle head with a failing grasp of the english langauge. or a lack of communication of any sorts. i would imagine that grunts and moans are more of his preference. but he hasn't said much more lately so i will have to wait and see.
and dead eye?
dead eye... someone that i can respect in this company. someone that i could see myself tagging with and winning tag titles if devlin scott even introduced them. he is also someone that i can see a friendly rivalry with as we are both similar. we both see ourselves as doing what is right. we are optimistic in our goals for this company, but we are realistic. winning this match will help to make us standout from some of the other newer talent but it does not mean a title shot. i think that dead eye and myself as two peas in a pod, except for one fact.
and that is?
family. i can't say what i do or do not know about dead eye and his background, but i have made it apparent where i come from. this sport, and athleticism in general, is something that is a part of my family. i have the weight of my family on my shoulders, and it is because of that i will persevere in this company. i am not cutting dead eye short by any stretch of the imagination. i am sure that he has his own motivations and dedication to this company and sport, but i just believe that i am hungrier. he earned a spot in the trials and tribulations match, so he has already been noticed. hayden phoenix has taken notice to him as well. i need to win this match to stand out amongst the crowd. get my head above the rest. i've seen the roster in this company ebb and flow, but staples of this company like keg, john william kingsley, carmine reaper, hayden phoenix... they have been here for awhile and are respected members of ngw. i want to be part of that. to be part of the mentioned, recognizable names. avery miles III.
you mentioned respect. how important is respect?
respect is key. it is the glue that holds together companies. a company that does not respect its talent or talent that does not respect the company is one to fall apart. i think that coming into this match that dead eye and myself share mutual respect, and regardless of who wins we will walk away with more respect from each other. dead eye spoke about stealing the show, and i would not want anything less than that. he also mentioned ambition, and we definitely both share that. i can see one day dead eye vs avery miles for the heavyweight championship. we are the future of this company. there is no doubt in my mind. is that being cocky? maybe a little, but sometimes confidence can be easily turned into cockiness. i am just being confident in what i bring to the table. i think that we both respect this sport and this company, and for that we will be gladly rewarded with opportunities. we will earn the respect of those in the company including devlin scott.
you mentioned hayden phoenix, what are your thoughts on the partnership that he has struck with dead eye?
great for the both of them, can't say that i wouldn't like to be a part of that. maybe they have room for myself? who knows. i'd love to be on the same side with them. having people that have similar morals and virtues is important, but at the same time i can handle being on my own.
final question, who would you like to face in this company?
carmine reaper. the first ngw heavyweight champion. he set the table for all those that will come after him. he was a fighting champion. and after losing his title he has not given up. he fights back for the title and i think that he has a good shot to win it back. he does not cheat. he gives respect to those around him. i would be honored to match up against someone of his caliber. there is no question.
well thank you very much for the interview. good luck to you on your match.
thank you hannah
